Although traditional gifting of tangible objects is still extremely popular, I find I buy more for myself during these great sales than for others. In fact, a lot of people I know are far more interested in gifting experiences than things. But gifting travel can be complicated. Airlines cutting regional routes isn’t new – a widespread trend of routing changes was spurred by the COVID pandemic after months of plummeted travel demand. Once the federal moratorium against laying off workers was lifted in fall 2020, airlines began announcing changes to service in regular intervals. Since the pandemic started making headlines in early 2020, many travelers have shifted their focus from international to domestic vacations. There’s really so much to see here within the continental US! Despite strict cleanliness, masking, and social distancing protocols, many domestic travelers felt more comfortable in short term rentals (Airbnb, VRBO, etc.). My husband and I owned and operated two short-term rentals during this time and we were consistently booked up! Often, people just wanted to change up their location while working and attending school remotely, so they chose a change of scenery with all the amenities of home.
