Kapoho is the location of two distinct subdivision projects: KapohoBeaches and Kapoho Vacationland. The shoreline of "Vacationland" is in a conservation zone and is thereby accessible by the public and protected. The abundant tidal pools stretch out to the reef and to the surf and the deep blue Pacific Ocean beyond. The area is ideal for kayaking, snorkeling and world class diving among tropical fish and coral. This is an undiscovered tropical shoreline community where it is always "sunny". 8 miles from Pahoa; 30 minutes from Hilo and the airport. Just south about 10 minutes is the very large geothermal pond at AhalanuiPark and IsaacHalePark at Pohoiki for boat ramp, fishing and surfing. Miles and miles of biking and hiking trails along the flat lands of Kapoho.
In the Kapoho & Pohoiki area:
Ahalanui Park: A state park perched on the rocky shoreline with a natural geothermal hot pond. The pond is very large and is flushed daily by tidal surges thru the narrow channel at the water's edge. The park has pic nic pavilions with BBQ grills, pic nic benches and plenty of area for kids and grown ups to toss a Frisbee or just enjoy the tropical oceanfront area.
Isaac Hale Park: A state park on Pohoiki Bay being renovated to add car and boat storage and parking.Pic nic areas with tables.Launch your boat right into the bay and hit the outstanding fishing in the area. Also has some pretty fair surfing.
